Who We Are
PPBP is more than an organisation, it is a community built on shared heritage, mutual respect, and collective responsibility. At its core, it is an extended family where people come together not just to celebrate culture, but to support each other through all phases of life.
This page is our shared understanding of how PPBP works, its values, how decisions are made, how funds are managed, and how leadership continues over time. It is not a rigid rulebook. It is meant to keep us grounded in our founding spirit while giving us enough structure to grow responsibly. PPBP is governed through two bodies: the Management Committee (MC), which leads day-to-day operations, and the Advisory Committee (AC), which safeguards its values and long-term direction.

Our Core Values
Values That Shape Our Community and Our Future
Community First
Every member is an equal and important part of PPBP. We function in a way that strengthens trust, friendship, and mutual support, not one that creates hierarchies or distances.
This value shapes how we treat every member equally and how we plan for leadership to stay stay healthy and fair over time.
Equality — No Exceptions
No member receives preferential treatment based on designation, financial status or patronage, family connections, religion, gender, language, political beliefs, or any other factor. All decisions are guided by what is best for the community.
This means that no donor, sponsor, or high-value contributor receives special influence over how PPBP is governed. Personal interests that may conflict with the interests of the community are handled fairly and transparently.
Fairness and Democratic Conduct
We hold ourselves to high standards of fairness, transparency, and integrity. Every member should feel comfortable sharing opinions respectfully and participating in the growth of our community.
This value is what keeps our finances open and accountable, our leadership honest , and our conduct free from personal gain.
Cultural Heritage
We cherish Bengali culture and traditions, and we also celebrate the richness of other cultures with the same warmth and openness. Festivals, art, music, and language are all ways we stay connected to who we are.
Recognizing Talent
We believe in celebrating what makes each member unique. PPBP creates opportunities for members across all generations to showcase artistic, cultural, literary, and creative abilities.
The MC plans and runs all events and activities where our members can shine and how the Advisory Committee supports member welfare and participation across generations.
Service to Society
Service to humanity is one of the highest responsibilities of a community institution. PPBP actively supports social welfare — through volunteering, financial aid, medical support, educational assistance, and other community welfare efforts. We may also partner with recognized relief organizations during calamities or humanitarian needs.
This is why we dedicate funds every year for social causes.
What brings us together
Celebrating our heritage, nurturing talent, and bringing our community together.
Sharodotsav & Our Festivals
At the heart of PPBP is our homely Sharodotsav — Durga Puja — one of the long-standing Bengali community celebrations in West Pune. The sound of dhaak, the fragrance of dhunuchi, anjali, community bhog, adda and the joy of meeting familiar faces make the Puja much more than an annual event. It is our shared homecoming.
The same spirit continues through Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja and Poila Baisakh. Rituals are respected, children encounter traditions first-hand, and generations celebrate together. The intention is not simply to recreate Bengal in Pune, but to carry its warmth, values and cultural memory forward.
Art, Literature & Performing Arts
Music, dance, drama, recitation and literature have always been part of Bengali community life, and they remain at the heartbeat of PPBP. Our cultural evenings bring traditional and contemporary expressions onto the same stage, giving experienced performers and emerging talent a place to belong.
Anando Mela adds another unmistakably Bengali note: food, conversation, laughter and the familiar flavours of home shared across tables. It is culture experienced not from a distance, but through participation.
Youth, Learning and Community Engagement
A culture survives when the next generation finds its own connection with it. PPBP therefore encourages young people through creative workshops, Bengali learning initiatives, summer activities, cultural participation and opportunities to perform, organise and volunteer.
We want our children to know their roots without feeling confined by them — to understand where they come from, build friendships across generations and carry the best of that inheritance confidently into the future.
Giving Back
Celebration gains meaning when it is accompanied by care. Through member-led volunteering and social initiatives, PPBP seeks to contribute beyond its own festivities. The form of service may change with the need, but the principle remains constant: a community grows stronger when it makes space for responsibility, empathy and collective action.
Culture, Created by Our Own Community
Children learn beside adults, newcomers work with long-time members, and friendships are often built in the many evenings of preparation before the curtain rises.
One of PPBP’s most distinctive traditions is that much of our cultural work is home-grown. Ideas do not simply arrive on a stage as finished programmes. They begin in conversations among members and take shape through collective effort.
From concept and creative direction to scripting, choreography, music, rehearsals, production and execution, members of the PPBP community contribute their time and talent to bring each presentation to life. Children learn beside adults, newcomers work with long-time members, and friendships are often built in the many evenings of preparation before the curtain rises.
That is what gives our celebrations their character. They are not programmes merely presented to a community; they are cultural experiences created by the community, for the community.
Rooted in Tradition. Growing Together.
PPBP is where pujo becomes belonging, culture becomes participation, and community becomes an extended family.
From an idea to the stage, from anjali to adda, from one generation to the next — our culture comes from within.
